I’m throwing caution to the wind. Can’t you tell by my lack of casing in the title. WHO AM I?
There’s been a shift in the tides over here on my little island, and I figured since I’ve been doing all of this behind the scenes work, I may as well share what I’m doing and why. [Enter very, very long pause. Pause. Pauuuuuuuse…]
See! This is what happens. I put pen to paper (or, fingers to keyboard) and find it so hard to just…write. Part of the reason is likely attributed to social media; it’s become my escape and place to share little bite sized segments of my life. Writing longer pieces has become trying. But, here I am trying ’cause I have some stuff to share.
So, the TLDR; is… I live at the intersection of creativity and business daily. I’ve been working on hashing this out for a while, and it’s something I’ve been compelled towards FOREVER: a different breed of creative biz coaching. And it’s scary. ?? I’ve had a lot of people asking for help and inquiring about the various ways I’ve designed my life to run multiple business(es), work on creative projects, and simply take action to get shit off the ground. I’ve been working with peers/friends and other individuals in this capacity over the past 2 years, and starting in November, I think it’s time grow myself and make it an informally formal thing for a while. I don’t have a “books” education in this stuff; I’ve simply lived it and learned along the way. [My consultancy for startups and big businesses will continue to operate per usual.]
I spend the majority of my time consulting with big businesses, and I love it. You can make a different kind of impact with businesses that have large teams, a dreamy budget for execution, and are willing to deploy big projects out into the wild to grow traffic. BUT there’s also a lot of politics and bureaucracy, timelines are often much longer than we’d like because of approvals, and you can’t move super fast. There’s a lot of boundary setting and scope creep because of the nature of content and SEO, and even if you’re great at making sure expectations are set, it’s inevitable that lines become blurred when you’re a consultant. SEO requires a lot of constant justification because it’s a long-term play. There’s big ups and big downs.
But you can’t match the passion and determination of people who color outside the lines and are creating things fearlessly. You just CAN’T.
Back in 2016, I spent a wild year co-creating a creative collective / content production company that was full of soooo many passionate artists and creators who were continuously getting shit out there. We were writing feature film scripts, we were putting up scenes from pilots every week, we were incubating ideas and writing them the same night, we were self producing and bootstrapping content. The amount of stuff we simply GOT DONE and took action on was astounding. It laid the groundwork for things that many people wish they could do, but never take the first step towards action.
I have a lot of friends and industry peers who are building things, launching things, remapping their lives, and I’ve been so excited to be included in helping a lot of them structure what they need to do for launch, offering feedback, working with them on their SEO or marketing strategy, and in general being an accountability buddy. A lot of what I’ve learned over the past 8+ years through my professional and personal journey in the consulting space has allowed me to learn skills, communication, workflow, and action from all different types of people and businesses. I, myself, have also been the person carving out a creative career and navigating things that I had no roadmap for.
I’ve put myself through the creation and launch process multiple times with my podcast, scripts/pilots, courses, a youtube channel and course that I partnered on (ask me what it’s like to film 13 videos in the span of two weeks, edit them, get the logo/branding created, and everything else – I dare you! haha) and a number of different eComm sites. These are the things that truly light me on fire. I’ve also stumbled, failed, succeeded, and learned a bunch of stuff I didn’t think I’d ever learn.
Which is why I think it’s time to make a shift into that space again; I’ve been getting the itch to work with solo creators, creatives, entrepreneurs, side hustlers, and people putting themselves on the line to get out there and build things that they love. Before I say the next thing, lemme say and reiterate a million times over, that our consultancy is continuing to operate for startups and big businesses; that’s not going anywhere. With that said, our pricing and way of operating with Orthris isn’t conducive to working with certain types of people, and rather than augment our offerings there and create confusion with the consulting business, I’m operating this separately.
So I’m doing something that I’ve wanted to do for so long, but have been afraid to do (hi! I get scared tooooo) which is open up my inbox and life for a new breed of creative business coaching. I won’t keep this open forever, as my next steps are to get this moved into moved into something much bigger, but for now… here I am!
My initial availability is on this page. I was trying to keep it pretty clear and focused, but because of the nature of creative biz coaching, if you have a specific request or need that may not be listed, send me a message and we can see if working together is the right fit. I’m well aware of the stigma that’s placed around the word “coaching”, but I can’t find a better word that fits between coaching, advising and consulting right now. This isn’t just “advice” that you’ll forget to implement. I’ve dealt with the creative roadblocks, and the difficulties in marrying creativity and business. The goal is to get you to take action. My one caveat is this… if you’re not someone who is ready to take action and make moves, we probably won’t be the best fit for each other. If you’re ready to accept feedback and put in the work, let’s make magic together!
